HELIO DE JESUS PEREIRA MESTRE

As a performer and event organizer, HELIO’s “HEARTist” philosophy involves “moving the archetypes” to create inner/outer unity of harmony and peace. Beginning as a teenager in Faro, he catalyzed the Punk Rock Hard Core inspired by the Ratos de Porāo. Since then, he has lived the two extremes— from devoted family man working as a banker to support a family which came to an abrupt end as a result of a 2007 breakthrough revelation prompting him on a spiritual journey. In his early twenties, he was a project coordinator in A.R.C.A. (associação recreativa é cultural do Algarve) Faro /Algarve (1996-99) before working in the same capacity for European youth exchange programmes. He was founder and co-director of Festival do Carocal, a gastronomic and folk music festival in the Algarve. Relocating to Brussels, he was event coordinator for Boomshankar brussels (2010-15) and Rapa Nui asbl Brussels (2013-15).
A self-identified “archetypal fisherman” Portuguese explorer of new worlds, Helio has created a new form of holistic theatre out of an inner mosaic of self-reflections expressed in body movement, image, color and text. Maestre interactive theatre integrates Helio’s imagined world of newly emerging holistic archetypes with a life fully lived on the edge, bartering stories in exchange for food and shelter while fulfilling a cosmic mission of creating ritual practice at festivals and various experimental communities throughout the world. By way of this intense journey of human/cosmic alignment, the Helio GESAMTKUNSTWERK encapsulates a new modernist impulse of an inner/outer marriage of Heaven & Earth in which life is inseparable from art, in which art is life lived from the center of the HEARTist.
